Following the success of a visit last month to Marlborough College, when St Mary’s Classicists enjoyed a talk by Bristol University's Professor Finglass on the enigmatic female Greek poet, Sappho, a team of Sixth Form Latin students set out once again; this time to hear Eleanor Dickey’s fascinating talk on how non-native Latin speakers learnt this language in antiquity.
Students asked thoughtful questions in the Q&A session at the end and came away realising that it is not just students today that struggled to learn their noun declensions and verb conjugations!
