The Inter Company Lacrosse competition is always one of the highlights of the lacrosse calendar at St Mary's and this year the event provided an opportunity to remember Mr Leang and his love of lacrosse. With a new format and the competition taking place on Saturday, this allowed for older students to support their younger compatriots as well as the younger students being able to watch Senior lacrosse, as well as a huge contingent of parents cheering on from the sidelines.
The LIV and MIV competition, played on smaller pitches saw fast-paced action with lots of goals scored. Moberly led the way, winning all their games, scoring 20 goals and only conceding four to top the table. UIV joined forces with LV for the next competition, this provided for a close competition with last years dominant house, Poore winning three games and only losing one against Moberly.
At the Senior level, the favourites, Poore faced Ed Rich who pulled off a great win to open up the competition. The win motivated Ed Rich as they went onto win their remaining games, and although Poore recaptured the winning ways, the first loss meant the top spot went to unbeaten Ed Rich.
Following the tournament, Mrs Tamplin addressed students and parents. She spoke of her memories of Mr Leang and the impact he had made to St Mary's as well as the fundraising for Young Minds led by Poppy, Ophelia (both UVI) and the Senior Lacrosse Squads. The introduction of the Inter Company Lacrosse Cup, re-named the Leang Cup, was awarded to Moberly (pictured) by Mr Leang’s brother who gave a short speech. This was a great way to end the lacrosse season as well remember Mr Leang whose memory will remain with us.
