On 7th March, the Sixth Form Latinists travelled to Monmouth School and enjoyed a morning of talks and workshops relating to the literature they are reading for A Level, as well as practising their language skills.
It was very encouraging to see that Classics is still very much alive and flourishing in schools, with schools from Bath, Hereford, Cheltenham and beyond joining together in a collaborative study morning. Subjects ranged from vox pop in Tacitus’ Annals, Cicero’s rhetorical genius in his second Philippic and possibly the best well-known piece of Roman literature, Vergil’s Aeneid. The girls benefited from taking a broader perspective on the literature they have studied in such close detail and came away feeling confident in their own knowledge as well as inspired by new faces and ideas.
