Agnes wins Simon Powell Poetry Prize

poetry writingCongratulations to Year 11 pupil, Agnes, who was one the winners of the Simon Powell Poetry Prize – a national competition for GCSE students. The organisers said it was a very strong field this year, with hundreds of great entries, so it is a particularly impressive achievement.

As part of her prize Agnes will receive a collection of books from the Poetry Live poets, as well as an invitation to read her poem at one of next year's Poetry Live events. The other section of the prize is to attend a poetry workshop in July, hosted by celebrated poets Daljit Nagra and Imtiaz Dharker. This will take place at Simon Powell’s former residence at the Barbican, London (Poetry Live's headquarters). Simon Powell was a great champion of new poetry and the founder of Poetry Live, so it will be a real honour for Agnes to attend a workshop with professional published poets in his former home.
