We’re excited to announce our popular 2026 LTA Tennis Leaders Course will once again be offered to our LV / Year 10 students. This excellent leadership course, created by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), is designed to inspire the next generation of tennis role models and is open to anyone in LV who enjoys playing tennis, likes helping others, and is keen to take their interest in tennis to another level. St Mary’s is very proud to be able to offer this course directly to its pupils as part of the St Mary’s Calne Tennis Academy, which has five LTA accredited coaches at Level 3 and above.
As course tutor Coach Mike Wright says, ‘I’d really encourage pupils to take part in the Tennis Leaders Course. Previous students have absolutely loved it — they have gained confidence, made new friends, and have really enjoyed learning how to help others on court. It’s a fun, positive experience and a great step forward for anyone who enjoys tennis.’
The Tennis Leaders Course is suitable for all playing standards and gives young people the opportunity to play an active and valued role in school and club tennis activities. Students who have previously completed the course have successfully taken on key roles at university club tennis and local clubs. Beyond the court, the skills can support job applications and further education, building confidence, leadership and communication skills that last a lifetime.

Course Content
Core Module (3 hours): Introduction to Leading a Tennis Lesson
Participants will:
- Learn the basics of tennis, including strokes, game formats, and variations of the sport
- Understand how these game formats help introduce tennis to people of all ages and abilities
- Develop effective communication and organisation skills
- Put learning into practice through warm-up activities and on-court drills
Module 4 (1 hour): Helping at a Competition
Participants will:
- Understand key actions before, during, and after a competition
- Learn how to act as a scorer in a Mini Tennis match
- Gain experience organising a Round Robin group
- Learn how to support a competition organiser or referee
Course Fee: £65 + VAT (includes all workbooks and resources)
The LTA Tennis Leaders Course is a fantastic opportunity for young players to grow their confidence, leadership, and love for the game, all while giving something back to tennis.
