It is a delight to see vibrant Chinese New Year decorations bringing a joyful spirit of celebration to the boarding houses and brightening the corridor to the dining hall. These colourful displays have created a wonderfully festive atmosphere as we prepare to welcome the Year of the Horse.
In the lead-up to the celebrations, our Mandarin pupils have been engaging thoughtfully with the festival’s rich traditions and cultural heritage. They have explored the symbolism woven into New Year customs, crafted decorative “firecrackers” to represent good fortune and joy, and practised Chinese calligraphy by writing traditional spring couplets adorned with auspicious sayings. It has been wonderful to see their understanding deepen and their appreciation for this vibrant cultural occasion flourish.
Our Lunar New Year celebrations will continue after the Half Term break. On Monday 2 March, we will mark the Lantern Festival with our annual Chinese supper – a much-anticipated highlight of the season.
We look forward to bringing our school community together to share in this joyful occasion and to celebrate the spirit of unity, hope, and renewal that lies at the heart of the festival. 新年快乐/ 新年快樂
