St Mary’s Calne sparkled with excitement on Wednesday 4 March as 47 brightly dressed girls, who are currently in Years 5 and 6 and applying to join St Mary’s, joined us for our annual Musical Theatre Day.

With the help of our expert vocal and dance specialists, and armed with props including glitter microphones, red headbands and tiaras, the girls threw themselves into learning routines from Naughty (Matilda), Popular (Wicked) and Golden (KPop Demon Hunters). Their talent and enthusiasm shone as they mastered all three iconic anthems in just one day.

More than 100 parents, grandparents and supporters came to enjoy the final performance, which also featured two beautiful solos from current pupils: Octavia SP (UIV) singing Someone Else’s Story from Chess, and Georgie C (UV) performing She Used to Be Mine from Waitress.

Commenting on the day, Mrs Bethan Dudley Fryar, Director of Vocal Studies, said: ‘It was such a pleasure to welcome this wonderful group of girls to St Mary’s Calne; they worked brilliantly together. Creating three full routines in just one day is quite an impressive feat, and they did it with smiles and buckets of enthusiasm – and of course a huge amount of talent.
