Congratulations to Kate T (MIV) who achieved outstanding success at the Bath Mid-Somerset Festival with her impressive piano performances earning her first place in both the Open Classical Repertoire and Post-1900 Repertoire categories.
We are incredibly proud of all our pianists who competed admirably in the festival: Easton C, Lily Z, Christabel W, Jinxi L (all LIV), Kate T (MIV), Elsa Y W (UIV), Katelyn C (LV), Myra L (Lower Sixth), Halia L and Allison L (both Upper Sixth). They performed with great poise and musicality, commendably representing music at St Mary’s.
A further five ‘Second Place’ awards were achieved by: Allison L (Open Romantic), Jinxi L (Open Classical), Myra L (Open Baroque), Easton C (Grade 6 Piano Solo), and Elsa Y W (13 and under Piano).
Notably, ‘Open’ classes often mean performing against adult musicians, making these results even more impressive.
Performing and competing at the Mid-Somerset Festival provides musicians at St Mary’s with a unique performance experience. The annual Mid-Somerset Festival invites both children and adults to showcase their skills in creative writing, speech & drama, music, musical theatre and dance. It was founded in 1902 making it one of the oldest and respected festivals in the country. It is held in the centre of Bath using a variety of the most prestigious venues in the city. Each year, the festival receives more than more 5,000 entrants across its competitive categories.
Competitions require courage and resilience and all the girls should be very proud of themselves for taking part in the festival.
