St Mary’s U15 cricketers through to next round of School Sport Magazine Cup

St Mary’s U15 cricketers enjoyed an excellent afternoon of play this week with a strong T20 cup victory over Bryanston, progressing confidently through to the next round of the competition.

Batting first, St Mary’s posted a competitive total of 119 for 6 from 20 overs. The innings was built on a solid opening partnership, with Emilia C (21 runs) and Willough K (22 runs) setting the tone with patient, composed batting. Their partnership provided a strong platform, allowing the rest of the order to bat with confidence and keep the scoreboard moving. Sensible shot selection, good running between the wickets, and clear communication ensured pressure was consistently applied to the Bryanston fielding side.

In response, St Mary’s made an outstanding start with the ball. Bryanston were reduced to 0 for 3 in the first over, thanks to an exceptional opening spell from Willough K, immediately putting the opposition under significant pressure. This early breakthrough proved crucial in the context of the match.

The bowling attack maintained discipline throughout the innings, with Scarlett L producing an impressive spell to take two key wickets, bowling with control and intent. Behind the stumps, Georgia A delivered an excellent wicket keeping performance, showing great concentration, sharp reactions, and strong communication, which played an important role in supporting the bowlers and maintaining pressure.

Support from the rest of the bowling unit, combined with energetic and committed fielding, ensured Bryanston were never able to bounce back. St Mary’s excellent backing up, focus in the field, and calm execution in the closing overs helped restrict Bryanston to 110 for 6, securing a well deserved victory.

The team was led superbly by co captains Bea M and Mabel R who ensured the side remained focused and worked effectively together throughout the match.

This was a genuine team performance, with contributions across batting, bowling, fielding, wicket keeping, and leadership. The result sees St Mary’s progress to the next round of the cup, an exciting achievement and a reward for the girls’ hard work and commitment.

The next round will be played next Tuesday (5/5) at Avebury Cricket Club against Canford School.
