As part of our commitment to supporting ambitious students in their higher education aspirations, we welcomed pupils from four local senior schools to join our Lower Sixth students for a specialist workshop led by our Head of UCAS and Higher Education, Dr Sarah Kewley. The sessions focused on applications to competitive universities, including Oxbridge, and highly selective courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science, PPE and Economics. Here, some of our Lower Sixth report on the sessions:

‘Dr Kewley gave us a useful breakdown of the timeline of events, including personal statements, UCAS applications, and then the interview, giving us a good idea of what to include. Following this session, we broke up into smaller, subject specific groups with teachers to discuss a tailored set of interview questions and other aspects of different courses. All in all, it was a hugely useful afternoon which gave us a great insight into what is to come over the next couple of months.’ Emily I

‘Each small group specialised in subject-specific preparation, emphasising the importance of university college systems, extracurricular activities, entrance exams and interview preparation. It was an insightful and enjoyable afternoon for all, and one which will be largely beneficial in the coming months of university applications.’ Eve

‘In my breakout session, we focused on ESAT questions and how we should prepare for the exam. I found the afternoon helpful as I hadn’t previously known exactly what was required to apply. I also enjoyed being able to talk to students from other schools who are planning to apply for the same course as me.’ Belle
