On a balmy Monday afternoon at the Southwell Hall, the Major Minors Children’s Choir presented their Summer Concert, their final performance of the academic year, with considerable style.

Following the lead of the FIFA World Cup, a ‘hydration break’ became a new fixture in the performance. This ensured the young singers felt on top form throughout, ensuring their renditions of contemporary choral works, Disney songs and Hollywood blockbusters captivated the audience.

This concert featured an exciting collaboration with our UIV pupils, who have worked with the Major Minors Choir all term, sharing repertoire, ‘news of the day’ and crisps and playtime in the garden.

Martha D, Year 6 said: ‘My favourite two songs to learn and perform were ‘Feed the Birds’ from Mary Poppins and ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman. I even got to introduce one of the songs to the audience which was fun. I really loved having the opportunity to sing with the girls from St Mary’s – including girls in my new company.’

The UIV pupils made lovely new friendships in our local community, and the young singers from the Major Minors thoroughly enjoyed their company.

‘I have really enjoyed learning, preparing for, and taking part in the concert with the Major Minors Choir. It has been a fun and rewarding experience. Mrs Fryar has been a wonderful teacher to learn from, and she has inspired many people, including me. She has taught us to persevere, not to rush, and, most importantly, to have fun. All of the Major Minors children listen carefully and have done very well with Mrs Fryar’s help and guidance.

I would encourage more opportunities like this, where different year groups can work together, as it was both enjoyable and a great learning experience. It would be wonderful to see these types of activities happen more often and involve even more year groups.

Thank you so much, Mrs Fryar. None of this would have been possible without you.’ Flo T, UIV
