WHO WE ARE

Digital School

Our Digital School programme ensures pupils learn to harness technology safely and appropriately. With digital technologies embedded in university and the workplace, our approach strikes the right balance between mastering digital literacy, while maintaining high quality traditional skills, such as handwriting with appropriate amounts of screen time.

Developing a mastery of digital literacy to support teaching and learning.

Artificial Intelligence

As we prepare our pupils for life head, it is important that pupils at St Mary’s are AI literate and can take advantage of the benefits that AI can bring. The school uses Microsoft Copilot as our AI resource. Teachers and pupils can use AI, where appropriate, to support learning as well streamline basic administrative tasks. We do not use AI for marking.

We have introduced a Student AI Permissions structure, which ranges from a default of ‘zero’, which means no AI can be used to a permission of ‘two’ where a pupil can generate all content through Copilot but the learning objective will focus on using the raw information in some other way.

Enrolled devices

We use Microsoft Surface Pro enrolled devices to allow the safe access to digital resources and consistent technology across the school.

Pupils are taught digital literacy so that they can use, share, find, evaluate and create using digital technologies and online resources. This is connected to other aspects of school life ranging from wellbeing and online safety and use of social media through to our Futures Programme and critical thinking.
