CAMPUS AND FACILITIES

The lumi Library

A favourite spot on campus, our library inspires curiosity and learning in a striking, award-winning building. Opened in 2021, it was named Small Project of the Year at The Building Awards and serves as a vibrant academic hub for the entire school.

The library is a place which instils a love of reading, research and learning

Space for every style of learning

Spanning two floors, the library accommodates every learning style and provides flexible space for a range of events and visiting speakers. The ground floor has soft seating, interactive teaching zones, study areas and mini-amphitheatre as well as access to outside tables. Large terrace doors open onto the orchard, inviting collaboration, discussion and connection with nature.

Views, nooks and study spaces

Inspired by an orangery with views over our much-loved apple orchard, the library’s tree-like beams and glazed façade instil a love of reading, research and learning.

Upstairs, the atmosphere shifts to quiet focus. Individual study areas, cosy reading nooks, flexible workspaces and private study rooms support concentration and reflection. Pupils can choose the environment that suits their needs, whether for solo study, group work or creative projects.

Sparking imagination

The library houses more than 16,000 books, from subject-specific non-fiction to classic and contemporary fiction. Facilities include a large boardroom-style table with an interactive screen, two project rooms with doodle walls, four breakout rooms and a multimedia suite with its own piano keyboard, ideal for compositions.

A refreshment zone serves Sixth Form students, staff and guests, while the stairwell doubles as an indoor mini-amphitheatre. The Hub, a cosy sunken space with a large screen is in the middle of the library.

The spacious library, which was built with financial support from generous donors, was awarded Small Project of the Year at the prestigious Building Awards in 2021, shortlisted in the 2022 RIBA awards and recognised by ArchDaily.

Staffed by our specialist library team, pupils are encouraged to explore and work together in this very special space.
