The UVI (Year 13) have been back in school for the last few weeks, enjoying a varied and exciting programme of activities and events. We have been fortunate enough to visit Thorpe Park on one of the hottest days of the year so far, enjoyed a talk on Hormones from Mrs Cotton, listened avidly through a wine tasting seminar with Mr Mallinson (and enjoyed tasting the different selection he brought with him!), spoken about menu planning incorporating delicious and healthy vegetarian food, taken a trip to Bath with a delicious brunch, welcomed the UV (Year 11) to a BBQ in the garden to talk about being in the Sixth Form – all alongside enjoying a stimulating programme of pre-university enrichment seminars in all of our subjects. The teachers have worked very hard to deliver some fascinating and different perspectives on all subjects – from rocket experiments in Mathematics to Ancient Greek music (strangely similar to the Troubadours!) and the French attitude to their cheeses; it has been great to learn about a subject in a new way.

The UVI have also excelled themselves at producing some wonderful final Leavers’ Chapels, one of the funniest Staff Entertainments we have ever seen (Mr Smyth’s dancing talents are now well known!) and a very well worded final poem. This was all produced while 14 of the year group were completing their Gold DofE final expedition, so huge credit must go to all involved, but especially Tilda, Jenna, Wren and Fenella who pulled a lot together last minute with great success.

We are looking forward to saying goodbye next week in our Leavers’ Celebrations: our final Friday night together as a bubble followed by Founders’ Day and our Lily Gala Dinner. They have been a wonderful year group and we will really miss them!
