Pupils at leading independent girls’ school St Mary’s Calne have performed superbly in their GCSE/iGCSE results, with 53% graded A*, 78% graded A*-A and 93% A*-B.
Girls at St Mary’s Calne have very good reason to celebrate, following another set of superb A Level results, with 15 girls achieving straight A*s and As and over half the entries graded A*-A.
We had the most wonderful evening of Calne-ival fun on Saturday 2nd July for our UVI Leavers.
St Mary’s Calne’s 143rd Founders Day’ 2016 took place on 2nd July and began with a wonderful Commemoration Service in the Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin in Calne. This set the tone for the day perfectly; a day for the girls, their parents and families, teachers, staff, Governors and the local community to come together and celebrate, to reflect on the girls’ achievements and to bid a fond farewell to the UVI Form as they look forward to the next stage in their lives.
On Thursday 30th June, the LVI biologists went to ZSL Whipsnade Zoo for a fieldwork day, accompanied by Mrs McKernan and Miss Firth.
In addition to the national vote, St Mary’s girls had their chance to make their views heard. On Thursday 23rd June Ballot boxes opened at 8am in the houses to allow the girls to vote on whether the UK should leave or remain in the European Union.
Four years ago, St Mary's Calne started a Mentoring Scheme involving the Sixth Form pupils and The Springfields Academy in Calne.
On Wednesday the 29th of June, Mrs Davies, Isabella and Zanya (LV) went to Wills Hall, Bristol University to take part in and support the Routes into Languages speaking competition.
On Wednesday 29th June, the LVI welcomed Kate Filimon, Widening Participation and Student Recruitment Officer for the University of Exeter, to St Mary’s to deliver a workshop on preparing and writing a personal statement.
Last Wednesday, 60 Geography students from the LV and LVI packed their bags and began their journey to Iceland, whose flag aptly symbolises the ‘land of fire and ice’.
On Thursday 16th June, the LVI Psychology class spent a day applying our knowledge to the real world.
As part of their Enrichment Week activities, on 11th June the UIV girls studying French set off on their trip to Rouen.
