On Tuesday 23rd March, we were delighted to be joined by 2002 Leaver and former Middle East correspondent Fernande van Tets for the first in a series of live online CGA Talks. The evening was superbly hosted by CGA committee member Louisa Spicer, who introduced us to ‘From Calne to Damascus’.
Of this year’s university applications cohort, comprising current UVI (Year 13) applicants and Post Qualification applicants from 2020 Leavers, over 20% made applications for courses with Science components.
We were all very excited during lockdown when Mrs Muir suggested that we could camp on St Prisca’s field when we returned to school and really looked forward to spending a night under the stars with our friends.

When the 2020 Alumna of the Year Award, which had been planned to take place at The Chelsea Physic Garden, London, was cancelled for the second time, the CGA boldly decided to take the event online. On the evening of 17th March, alumnae and the whole school community were invited to join in with the virtual celebrations.

On Monday 15th March, we were lucky enough to have a talk from Isabel Barter, a commercial barrister and St Mary’s alumna.
All members of the St Mary’s Calne community are invited to enter the Science Film Festival. The aim is to research a scientist of your choosing and produce a short film (maximum four minutes) which will be judged by a mixed panel.
