Contender CharlieOn Saturday 26th June, the UV (Year 11) received an inspirational talk from guest speaker, Ben Walden, on the topic of confidence and leadership as a part of our Sixth Form Preparation Programme.

In the session we learnt how different kinds of people present themselves to appear confident, ranging from political leaders to school children, and that true confidence comes from ‘openness’ and ‘taking down [personal] barriers’, as Mr Walden describes it. My favourite part of the experience was the variety of insightful stories that were told to us, in particular the one about Nelson Mandela and a little girl, which taught me that leadership could be displayed by everyone, and in this instance, not by a famous world leader, but a little girl.
