On Saturday 21st November, two of our alumnae were involved in an independently organised online TEDx event, with the theme 'Bridging the Gap'.
The TEDxYouth@GandyStreet event was organised by 2019 Leaver, Michaela Mason. Michaela and her team had some amazing and inspirational speakers lined up for a day of talks and performances. The theme of the event touched on sustainability, responsibility, privilege, and common humanity. Inspired by ideas worth spreading from their community, and ideas worth bringing into their local community, their aim was 'to create meaningful, lasting change by empowering young people to go out and make a positive difference'.
Throughout the day there were talks from speakers and local performers, including 2020 Leaver, Charlie Balfour, who performed the debut single Stay which she co-wrote with Shubha Shetty - also a 2020 Leaver. Shubha also appears on the track, singing and playing the Piano and Violin.
Charlie said: 'We wrote this together over facetime back at the start of lockdown (April 2020) to enter in our school's annual Songwriting Competition...and won! This song reflects our experiences after our senior year of boarding school (upper sixth/Y13) was cut short and abruptly ended because of covid19'.
