As the school lacrosse season slows down after a busy Spring Term of competition, representative level lacrosse continues throughout the year. Over the Easter break, SMC students were in action in regional and international competition. Read on to find out more!

Home Internationals
The Home International Series is an annual tournament featuring the Home Nations (England, Scotland and Wales) as well as guest countries including Ireland, Germany and the Czech Republic. This year’s tournament had even more importance for the squads as teams prepare for the Senior European Championships and the U20 World Cup. Freya T (LVI) was selected to represent Wales and took part in the tournament, here she reports on the experience:

'Over Easter, I had the privilege of representing Wales U20 in the Lacrosse Home Internationals and, being held in Cardiff, this year felt particularly special. The tournament included men's seniors, women's seniors, women's U20 and women's U18 levels.

In the U20 competition, we started the tournament on Friday, with a comfortable win against Germany. On Saturday, we had a really good game against Scotland, also resulting in a win. Our final game, against England, saw a tough fight throughout the game, and, although it ended in a loss, we came out with some strong positives, as well as targets for the future.

The whole weekend was an amazing experience, with a great atmosphere, team spirit and lacrosse standard. It was great to play with and against girls from a range of schools, and I am looking forward to improving my individual and team play in the next few months.'

England Regional Academy
Coco B (LV) and Sapphire (LVI) represented the SW Region U15 and U18 teams in the England Lacrosse Talent Pathway Regional Academy tournament. This tournament brings together teams from the different regions to play competitive matches and is also one of the ways for coaches to select players to move up to the National Academy.

'I really enjoyed the whole regional tournament experience and loved playing against all the different regions. The whole atmosphere was very encouraging, and the coaches were very supportive and motivating. The matches were intense, but it was nice that everyone in the team was able to work so well together even though we only play with each other a few times a year. As a whole, the entire day was super exciting and I had a great time playing lacrosse at such a high standard, which has enabled me to progress massively as a player.' Coco (LV)

Alumnae
SMC also had representation at the Home Internationals with Iona (2017 Leaver) and Jess Westwood (2018 Leaver) playing for Scotland and Lizzie Rutherford (2021 Leaver) representing England. Lizzie had just recently captained her university team (Durham) to the University National Championship, winning a gold medal. Amy Bolton (2022 Leaver) was also in action in the European Easter Tournament, playing for Ireland.

Congratulations to all!
