At St Mary's we enjoy taking Art seriously. Every girl is able to develop her own interests and broaden her range of skills to an incredible depth through the amazing opportunities on offer. In the purpose-built studios, due to be updated as part of the school's visionary ten-year plan, you will frequently find pupils working on original creative projects during the day, evenings and at weekends, tailored to individual interest. Independent enquiry in the studios is encouraged by experienced staff, who are all practising artists as well as experienced teachers; Art Scholars offer support peer on peer in an atmosphere of service and contribute their peers' feedback at termly Art Council Meetings.
Enrichment weeks and workshops by visiting artists aid the girls in learning new skills, understand creative thinking processes and gaining unique insights into the myriad of opportunities and careers possible in our ever-changing world. In addition to the whole school Lecture Series, students in the Sixth Form have weekly seminars on some of the more controversial developments in contemporary visual art as a supportive background to their own personal artistic development. Sixth Formers also gain the benefits of having Life Drawing sessions weekly with a visiting model.
