Examinations Officer

We are delighted to be accepting applications for the position of Examinations Officer to play a key part in the continued success of our school.

The post holder will be responsible for the administration, organisation and smooth running of public examinations and, in addition, the mock examinations for the UV (Year 11) and UVI (Year 13).  The post-holder will also be required to work closely with staff administering other types of examinations in order to avoid clashes.  The Examinations Officer reports directly to the Deputy Head Academic and is responsible to the Head for all aspects of their work.

Specific duties will include drawing up examination timetables, producing seating plans in accordance with JCQ regulations, the recruitment and training of Exam Invigilators and the responsibility for ensuring the security of exam papers.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional administration, organisational and communication skills.  Experience of recruiting and managing a team would be advantageous as would knowledge of the school examinations system.

The post of Examinations Officer is offered on a term time basis with an additional 3 weeks working at the end of the school summer holiday (due to the publication of A Level and GSCE exam results).

The salary for this position is £27,172.70 pro rata (£32,860 FTE).

Chef (Rostered shifts including Mornings, Evenings and Weekends)

The school Chef works an average of 33 hours per week during term time weeks (36 weeks per year) on a rota including some longer weeks and some shorter.  Day shifts start at 07.00 and evenings finish at 19.45 so no late nights!  Weekends are required, also on a rota basis.  The school kitchen is a busy environment and food is very important at St Mary's Calne!  Pupils (boarding and day students) enjoy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner daily alongside breaktime snacks, themed suppers and match teas.  All diets are catered for and the kitchen prides itself on varied and regularly updated menus.

Overtime is available for special events and during times of summer lets when the kitchen needs staffing and members of the team are each expected to volunteer for a small number of shifts to help spread the responsibility across the team (where possible).

Basic salary is based on the hourly rate of £11.52  for 36 weeks per year plus 5.6 weeks holiday pay per year (£15,820 pro-rated from £23,970 full time equivalent) plus overtime.

Junior IT Technician

We are excited to be recruiting for a Junior IT Technician to join our small friendly team for a 1 year fixed term contract commencing in July 2023.

The Junior IT Technician will help to support the busy internal helpdesk working with both staff and pupils to troubleshoot any IT issues that may arise. Working within a small team, the post holder will also assist the Network Manager in the maintenance and development of new IT services. This post will primarily be based at St Mary’s School, however the post holder may, on occasion be asked to support at our prep school, St Margaret’s, situated on the same site to ensure the IT support is consistent across both schools. This will have the added advantage of allowing a broader experience of working in the educational sector.

Specific duties will also include assisting in the maintenance of the school LAN and WLAN, helping to develop and maintain a growing Office 365 environment and providing IT support for school events.

The successful candidate will have a knowledge of Windows 7-10 and Mac OS X, be experienced in working with TCP/IP networks and be confident in replacing hardware components in PC’s and laptops. They will have excellent communication and team working skills and will be equally comfortable working on their own and as part of a team.

In return we offer single accommodation (free rent, internet, utilities and all bills except telephone), school meals during term time, reduced membership of the St Mary’s Sports Club, 36 days holiday (including Bank Holidays and 3 days shutdown between Christmas and New Year) and access to the school’s Employee Assistance Programme offered by Health Assured.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. The salary for this position will be between £11,075 to £16,628 per annum (National minimum wage dependent on age allowing for accommodation off-set).

Cleaners (Casual)

We have a vacancy for a weekday cleaner for our School Library and also a weekend cleaner.  Hours are listed below:

Weekday early mornings - Monday - Friday, 06.00-09.00 (every term time week, approx 35 weeks per year)

For the weekday contract, an year round salary will be paid based on £9.50 per working hour, rising to £10.42 per hour in April 2023 in line with NLW increase.  Although this is a casual position, we do require commitment to term time weeks to ensure that our busy boarding school maintains the highest level of cleanliness while students are on site.

Weekly hours Saturday Mornings (every term time week, approx 35 weeks per year) - 06.30-10.00

Weekly hours Sunday Mornings (most term time weeks, approx 28 weeks per year) - 07.00-10.00

Minibus Driver (primarily after school and weekends as needed)

We have an opportunity for a friendly, safe and flexible driver to join our logistics team for ad hoc minibus driving duties alongside one prep school afternoon bus run on most term time days * (currently 16.30-17.30).  We have a fleet of five, 16-seater transit buses and one smaller 9-seater van.  The daily bus run currently covers a route with very low numbers but this has scope to grow (* at present this service is not required every day hence the need for flexibility). 

Alongside the afternoon school run, further ad hoc hours are offered for weekend trips and, on occasion, weekday activities such as sports match transport.  There are no set hours associated with this role, but someone who can offer a fluid approach to taking up work would be in an ideal position to fit in to our friendly team.
