Tennis Professional

Run by St Mary's School Calne, the St Mary’s Calne Tennis Academy (SMCTA) is managed by Director of Tennis, Jonathan Hayes.  Extra-curricular opportunities beyond the classroom are a vital and integral part of life for students at St Mary's and at our Prep School, St Margaret's.  They are woven into the timetable during the day and in the evenings.

The SMCTA is seeking to recruit a Licensed Level 3 or 4 Professional Tennis Coach.  Applications from Level 2 coaches will be considered if the candidate is currently participating in the Level 3 award.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on more responsibility and further their coaching career.

This is a new vacancy due to demand for September 2022, with the consistently increasing numbers of pupils taking an interest in Tennis creating a waiting list for lessons. Basic hours starting in the region of 20 per week will therefore initially be allocated by the Director of Tennis with capacity for the new coach to build up their own timetable.  The successful candidate would be encouraged and supported to increase the number of lessons conducted. The Tennis Coach is employed on the terms of a Visiting Teacher.  Hours may fluctuate both up and down depending on demand, but the ethos of the School is to encourage extra-curricular activities to help these departments thrive.

The salary for this position is dependant on experience and level of qualification. The salary ranges from £16.15 per hour for a Level 2 Coach up to £29.53 per hour for an experienced Level 4 Coach. This is a term time only role and as Coaches are not required to work during school holidays, a bookable holiday system is not practical, therefore, a 12.07% per hour paid holiday entitlement is added to the hourly rate. Other benefits include Scottish Widows pension scheme with generous employer contributions, meals during term time, membership to the Health Assured Employee Assistance Programme and discounted membership of the St Mary’s Sports Centre.
