On Friday 26th April, the PE Department invited pupils to join them in celebrating the fantastic sporting achievements over the past year (from Summer 2023) at the annual St Mary's Calne Sports Awards.
This year, the event took place in Top Hall, with all year groups invited to enjoy the Sports Awards ceremony.
The evening started with a video of highlights and pictures from the sporting year, followed by Miss Tamplin giving an overview on another very successful year of fun, competition and personal achievement.
Our guest speakers this year were Lily Jones and Lisa Putt from Team Bath Netball. Lily and Lisa both talked about their journey in sport so far, and their sporting inspirations, particularly in netball.
After the speech’s concluded, it was onto the prizegiving, with the awards handed out by Lily and Lisa. The recipients of the two main award categories, ‘Player of the Year’ and ‘Most Improved Player’, were recognised in every age group and across every sport that the school has to offer, with a medal presented to the recipients.
In addition to this, there were three prestigious awards at junior, intermediate and senior level presented - Sportsmanship, Endeavour and Most Outstanding in Sport. This year two new awards were added to celebrate the hard work and commitment that our Sports Leaders put into their course, as well as an individual who has achieved great success in their chosen field of sport. Everyone that was recognised at the Annual Sports Awards is listed below. The PE Department would like to again congratulate this year’s award recipients.
It was a fantastic evening and one that was thoroughly enjoyed by all!
Major Awards
The Endeavour Award is to recognise the girl who puts the maximum amount of effort into all her sports.

The Sportsmanship Award goes to those who have participated in practises and matches, demonstrating a fair, honest, courteous, yet determined approach. They have a positive attitude and a polite approach towards staff and other players. They are individuals who always give of their best in every situation.
