On Thursday 7th March, our Fifth and Sixth Form musicians met in the Chapel to perform solo and ensemble music to each other and to a supportive audience. For the UV students, who have completed their GCSE performances, this was an opportunity to showcase their achievement; some chose to perform the same pieces as in their assessments, while others performed their favourites, old and new! The result was a glorious variety of styles and genres.
The concert opened with a vibrant performance by Ellie, Allison and Bianca (UV) of Vivaldi’s Concerto in B minor for four violins, which they have recorded for submission next term. The other UV students, and the three LVI students who are preparing for A Level Music, performed solos ranging from Bach and Brahms to Black Sabbath!
Katie S (UVI) performed two beautiful and technically challenging soprano arias as her first draft recording of her assessed A Level recital: Blute nur from Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and Ach ich fühl’s from Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Katie holds an offer to read Vocal Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and performed Ach ich fühl’s in her successful audition there.
The concert concluded with a joyous arrangement of John Williams’ music from the Harry Potter films, written by Miss Arthur and performed by the entire LV Music class!
Many thanks to Miss Arthur, Mr Sandon-Williams, Mrs Black, and all the girls’ instrumental and vocal teachers for their support, both in preparing the performances and on the night.
