Last week the UV (Year 11)  Drama group presented their performance pieces for their final Drama Exam.

All the girls acted in scenes from Moira Buffini’s darkly comic take on Russia in the 1920s. In a series of duologues, and one group of three, they explored the extracts from the story of Semyon, an unemployed, impoverished and despairing ‘everyman’ and his long-suffering wife, Masha. In the first scene – performed excellently by Lucy and Sophie – Semyon storms out threatening to commit suicide after a row over black pudding. The following scenes show him trying to learn the tuba (as a distraction) and then a succession of locals trying to persuade him to die for their cause. An appreciative audience of the girls' peers and staff enjoyed the scenes, with much positive feedback about the sheer quality of all of the performers, and the costume designs by Amara and Poppy.
