The Music Department is always proud to support students in their musical contributions to the wider local community. Two of our students, Robin (UV) and Tessa (LVI) are members of the choir of St John’s Church, Devizes, formerly under the direction of our very own Mr Chris Totney.
Arguably the foremost parish church choir in the Diocese of Salisbury, the choir of St John’s has a demanding schedule of Friday night rehearsals and Sunday services, contributing immeasurably to the practice of worship at the church. In the last few years they have toured to Latvia and commissioned music from established and up-and-coming choral composers.
Young choristers at St John’s are supported to work towards the rigorous and challenging RSCM Awards for choristers, which demand not just excellent singing but also a deep knowledge of liturgy and choral repertoire. We were absolutely delighted to hear that Robin has passed the Bronze Award with 97% (Highly Commended) – the highest mark in their cohort. This bodes extremely well not only for the future of singing at St Mary’s but also at St John’s – we look forward to their future achievements!
