St Mary's (SMC) 1st Team made a strong start in the first game against Sherborne but the shots were matched by the oppositions keeper. Sherborne managed to score to break the deadlock which was answered back by two goals from SMC. Sherborne did not give up and scored two more goals from quick drives. SMC were able to score an equaliser before the half time hooter. After a team discussion, SMC came out with more composed play and scored another two goals to win the game 5 – 3.

The second game against Godolphin was a physical game with the defence players of both teams working very hard. The Godolphin keeper made it difficult for SMC to convert their shots and their attack worked the ball well to create opportunities for them to score. SMC felt the pressure and were always chasing the game and, unfortunately, our mistakes led to Godolphin scoring and taking the win. (2 – 4).

Entering the final game against Marlborough College (MC), SMC would need to win and hope for other results to go their way. The team started off at a fast pace, putting the MC defence under lots of pressure and shutting down their attack plays. Going into half-time, SMC were 3 – 0 up and needed to keep this score. MC came out in the second half with more determination and stepped up their level in a hard-fought half. The score line finished as a draw (3 – 3) leaving MC at the top of the table and as County Champions.

The 2nd Team were crowned County Champions on Saturday after impressive wins over Marlborough College, Godolphin and Sherborne. Teamwork, patience and smart subbing were the key factors that led to the victory. Fresh legs allowed the team to create many scoring opportunities; due to dynamic transitions through the midfield and creative on-ball and off-ball play in the attacking zone. Turnovers were clean and the defensive unit protected the shooting area to prevent many goals being scored against us. Regular possession from the draw led to many fast breaks and goals being scored by a range of players. MVP was awarded to the whole team. Well done to the whole squad.

The 3rd Team showed how much they have developed so far this season with their skills and game play. They have worked hard to improve their attacking play and this showed with the high scoring games, such as 14 – 2 against Marlborough. Great midfield play from Becca and Polly running the ball into attack and finishing from Amelie led to plenty of goals. The defence held tight with Willow and Thea making good stops as well as Phoebe with saves.
