As the congregation took their seats, it was wonderful to see so many parents and the whole school community coming together for our Remembrance Day Service.

The Remembrance Day Service was comprised of many different readings - poems, letters, and speeches about remembrance and the World Wars - all read by members of the UVI who lined the sides and isle in Chapel.

Each girl held a candle and turned it on when she spoke, creating a deeply thoughtful and intimate atmosphere. My favourite reading of the night was The Last Letter of Guy Moquet, beautifully read by Celeste and Daisy.

The UVI Vocal Ensemble performed a beautiful rendition of We’ll Meet Again, with Kate and Sienna accompanying them on piano and double bass, while Tessa sang a wonderful rendition of Danny Boy.

The Act of Remembrance was read by Lieutenant Colonel Sean Matten MBE before he and representatives of the other branches of the military - Mr Keith Hubber, Father Jonathan, and Mr Mark Harrison RNR - laid the wreaths as Florence (UV) played The Last Post. The Service ended with Mr Joyce on the organ playing Nimrod by Elgar. After the Service there were drinks served in Helen Wright House for parents, teachers and UVI girls, creating a very pleasant end to the evening.

As Head of Chapel, I was responsible for organising the Remembrance Day Service, and was very pleased with how it turned out. The hard work we all put into its smooth running was clear from the moment the Service started, all the way to its end. As a military child, making sure that the Remembrance Day Service was the best that it could be was incredibly important to me, and so I am very grateful for everyone in my year and the various members of staff who gave up their time to ensure a perfect Service. I am especially thankful for the amazing wreath layers for coming into school in order to carry out such a crucial part of the Remembrance Day Service, with extra special thanks to my father who read the Act of Remembrance. Remembrance is such an important point in the year for many people, myself included, and to see the Service reflect this was truly special.
