St Mary’s hosted an exciting Swimming Gala against Stonar on the evening of Friday 11th November. It was a rather warm and busy poolside with exuberant competitors and a welcome amount of supporting parents.
Senior, Inter and Junior swimmers were divided into A, B and C Teams to allow girls to compete against swimmers of a similar ability and give more pupils the opportunity to race.
All three teams were competitive and performed to a high standard, and finished the Gala by winning most of the individual events. Florence P and Sophie K both won the 50m Backstroke in their age groups lowering their respective school records in the process.
The Gala has perhaps drawn attention to the fact the younger swimmers need to work a little harder on Butterfly during training and perhaps this is something the Senior swimmers can help with, by leading by example. It has, however, also highlighted the powerful dives, excellent technique and quick turns the girls have been working on.
Great results leading to an overall win.
Well done all!
