In Chapel on Tuesday 1st November, we were delighted to welcome Rich Parsons from FSCI (Foundation for Social Change and Inclusion), an organisation that reaches out to vulnerable people, to talk about their work and their annual Christmas Box Appeal.

Pupils across St Mary’s, and many other schools, have been asked to create a Christmas Box by gathering a few items or objects that would be considered age-appropriate and decorate the box (usually a shoebox) in a festive style. Items suggested include toiletries (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes) and clothing (hats, scarves and gloves) as these are needed during the colder months and are suitable for all ages.

Once the Christmas Boxes are decorated, checked, wrapped, and loaded, they are ready to be shipped off to places in Southeast Europe, such as Bulgaria. The FSCI Team aim to visit as many locations as possible, such as orphanages, small group homes, kindergartens, schools, refugee centres and retirement homes, to give Christmas Boxes to those in need and brighten their Christmas.

Rich Parsons will return on the 21st November to collect the completed Christmas Boxes made in school this weekend. Also, if you have created a Christmas Box at home, please make sure that you bring it in to school by that date.
