St Mary's was delighted to mark the Coronation of HRH King Charles III with a fun-filled three days of celebrations in honour of this historic occasion. From a Coronation luncheon on Friday in a Dining Hall resplendent in Union Jack decorations, to a 'red, white & blue' dress day on Saturday while watching the Coronation ceremony coverage, to an afternoon of Tennis competing for the Coronation Cup, closing with 'The Big Lunch' in the garden and a dedicated Chapel service on Sunday, the Coronation really brought together the St Mary's community.

Here, LVI students, Beam and Deborah, report on their weekend:

'Our Coronation celebrations started on Friday when we all enjoyed a memorable Coronation Lunch and Picnic Bar featuring special menu items such as Coronation Quiche and Commonwealth chicken. On Saturday, we gathered in our common room to watch the Coronation event live on TV, which we all enjoyed. A 'Big Lunch' lunch party was held on Sunday with food such as pizza, popcorn, cotton candy, and ice cream. The food was phenomenal and left a smile on everybody’s faces.'

Director of Tennis, Mr Jonathan Hayes, reports on the Coronation Cup Tennis Tournament:

'Having spent the morning watching the Coronation ceremony in Chapel, it was time to get our outdoor celebrations into full swing with the Coronation Cup Tennis Tournament. This was designed to be a little bit of fun and, as always, it got mightily competitive by the end.

Thirty-two pupils attended the event and everyone managed to play competitive points for an hour before our final took place between Mary and Taggie, Lisen and Evie. Having pulled into a healthy lead, Mary and Taggie were pegged back to make the score 10-10. Having seen the threat off, just, Mary and Taggie were crowned 'Queens of the Court'.

Well done to everyone who participated and thank you all for your enthusiasm!'
