This Friday, the LVI English Society got together for our termly meeting, in which we all came dressed as the literary figure (dead or alive!) whom we would most like to attend our own ‘dinner party’. Not only did we have to dress up as this figure, but also take on their identity for the evening, voicing our figures’ literary and social views.
English Society meetings are a great opportunity for us all to have intellectually stimulating debates, where respective tangents can be explored beyond the confinements of the classroom. We received an eclectic mix of authors ranging from the Brontë sisters, John Steinbeck, Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf; even a surprise visit from Captain Hook and Tinkerbell.
Over drinks and sushi, we all shared extracts from either a novel written by our author or something our author once said. The evening was both fun and interesting with us all coming away with a broader understanding of different authors across time.
