Last week, a member of the St Mary's faculty was fortunate enough to be invited to a special audience with the Speaker of the House of Commons. Mr Curran, Head of Geography, is also a part-time reservist in the British Army. Serving in the Royal Wessex Yeomanry, he was one of just a handful of reservists to be selected for this special event.

In addition to meeting the Conservative Chief Whip and a variety of other MPs who are former service personnel, Mr Curran was able to speak personally to Sir Lindsey Hoyle, Speaker of the House of Commons, and went forearmed with a list of questions from the LVI Government and Politics students.

The Speaker very kindly agreed to field their questions and sent his reply back to St Mary's with Mr Curran, stating that his greatest political hero is Barack Obama for breaking through so many ceilings to achieve so much in his political career.

Thank you Mr Curran!
