Since their return from exams, the LVI have been incredibly busy and really pushing the 'Calne Girls Can' ethos on different fronts. During their first weekend back, the Saturday Morning Programme saw them tackle a range of challenges under the 'Skills for Life' strand of their Donaldson Award.

To start, teams competed to 'Race Around The Car', opening boots and bonnets to label all different parts of the engine and even learn how measure tyre pressure and fit a child's car seat!

The 'Fridge Challenge' saw them improve their food hygiene knowledge to become the best - and safest - university housemates in just over a year's time as they cleaned up and sorted out the House fridges!

The final session was 'Emergency Plumbing', cutting up copper pipes and building their own mock kitchen sink complete with stopcock. The girls were shocked at the damage plumbing emergencies can cause - not to mention the cost of calling out an emergency plumber! All learned valuable, practical skills for life and left feeling confident about tackling these future challenges.

Huge thanks to Mr Waldron and the Saturday morning team for creating and delivering such memorable workshops!

This last Saturday saw all LVI pupils join online for a range of Higher Education talks and workshops to launch their UCAS applications, which opened last week. Ms Holloway led a session on 'How to Complete your UCAS Form', with the majority of LVI now logged on and ready to go.

The University of Exeter then delivered a live online workshop, 'How to Write a Personal Statement', full of practical tips and valuable advice for getting started and writing high quality applications.

Finally, we were joined online by recent alumnae currently at their first and second years at UK universities. Zara, reading Chemistry at Durham; Polly, reading Spanish & Politics at Bristol; Gigi, reading Architecture at UCL; and Becca, reading Geography at Manchester, all shared their journeys of choosing their courses, the application process and what university life is really like for them. The LVI asked lots of questions to our online panel and left the morning's sessions with their individual next steps much clearer.
