On Monday 5th June, our Fourth Form were fortunate to be joined by Henry Hudson from People Change Minds. Henry delivered a fantastic workshop on the topic of LGBTQ+ diversity and creating safe spaces for people to be open about their identity and feelings. He gave the pupils the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions about gender identity and to explore what they understood by some of the language used in platforms like social media about these topics.

Pupils looked at some different case studies which explored what a supportive or challenging environment might be like for a young person who wanted to talk about their identity with their family and peer group. They looked at what coming out might be like for an individual and how some behaviours can be respectful, kind, and supportive, whilst some environments can be uncomfortable or isolating.

The sessions each finished with the pupils sharing ideas for how friendship groups can be there for each other in a way that makes everyone feel safe and supported.
