St Mary's Calne
Last Thursday in Chapel, the UVI Leavers' Concert was presented to an eager audience of parents, students, staff and families from St Margaret's Prep. Featuring solo performances from A Level Music students, the programme included impressive feature performances by UIV Leavers' Iona (oboe), Sienna (double bass), Ashley (flute) and Kate (piano). Alongside these wonderful performances, the audience were treated to a range of musical styles from Strictly Strings (How Far I’ll Go from Moana), Junior Consort (Homeward Bound by Marta Keen, arr. Jay Althouse), Big Band (T.M.I by Ralf Ford) and LIV Choir with Ava on drums and Izzy on guitar (Hallelujah by Leonard Cohn, arr. by Mrs Fryar).
To concert came to a rousing finish with the UVI Leavers' Finale - a brilliantly upbeat ABBA Mash-Up arranged and conducted by Tessa (UVI) - that brought smiles to everyone present, with many people joining in from their seats!
Year 4 student, Layla W, reported on the concert:
'On Thursday, I was lucky enough to go to the UVI Leavers' Concert. It was exciting from the very start, and I really enjoyed hearing the solos such as the double bass, flute, oboe and the piano. The girls must have worked really hard to be so good and the conductors showed great expertise.
I was very impressed by the effort and energy that went into the whole performance. It felt like being at the theatre and I recognised most of the songs. It was amazing to experience all of the different instruments playing together in such a wonderful way.
It certainly made me want to learn how to play different instruments - especially the drums! I loved how the music went from calm to exciting when the Big Band played, and I especially liked Izzy's guitar playing in the song Hallelujah with the choir.
I also loved the ABBA songs and everyone else seemed to love them too as they were all singing along. The whole evening made me feel lots of different emotions as the music changed and I am glad I got the chance to listen to it all.'
