Congratulations to the winners of our Comedy Creature Capers Writing Competition. This fabulous furry story prize was the brainchild of LIV pupils Lucy and Josie who came up with the idea of running an in-house writing competition for all the aspiring comics and animals lovers of the LIV and MIV.
So, during Academic Enrichment Week students enjoyed a workshop on writing comedy with Mrs Bruton, after which they went off to write their own stories of furry fun and comedy creature capers.
New research suggests that being funny helps leaders gain influence, and that women, in particular, benefit more than men from using humour in the work environment since humour is associated with intelligence and competence. Women who are able to use humour effectively are seen as competent, diligent and independent! Students are taught the art of comedy writing in English lessons at all levels at SMC and this competition was a perfect platform for our girls to hone their funny bone skills!
Dozens of fabulously funny animal stories were submitted by our young writers, which made the English department chuckle, chortle, giggle, screech and laugh out loud! There were tales of football playing pooches, funny flies, posh pigs, belligerent badgers and much more.
Annoyingly, this did make the job of selecting the winners VERY difficult, because there were just too many good stories! In the end, after much deliberation, the following entries stood out! Drum roll please…..
LIV Joint Winners – Matilda J and Miya W
MIV Joint Winners – Bess H and Jessica C
Runners up: Sophia T, Charlotte P, Amelia Z, Grace B and Holly B
Congratulations to all who entered and a huge thank you to Lucy and Josie for inspiring and helping to organise the competition.
