Last Monday evening, the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham hosted an exhilarating performance of Wolves of Willoughby Chase, presented by the Four on Tour Company, which features all of the UIV contributing onstage or back-of-house. The production captivated a full house of parents, staff, students, and school supporters, who were treated to an unforgettable evening of drama, suspense, and shining talent.

Based on Joan Aitken's beloved novel, the play follows two brave girls navigating an alternative-history England filled with treacherous wolves, snow-covered wastelands, and the sinister guardian, Miss Slighcarp. This thrilling and humorous adaptation blended strong characters and dynamic storytelling, and it was evident that the girls were the perfect fit for the challenging roles. The slightly darker, ensemble approach to the production allowed even more of the talented UIVs to take part, showcasing their versatility and dedication.

The cast and crew put in an incredible amount of effort to bring this story to life, and it certainly paid off. From the chilling portrayal of the villainous Miss Slighcarp by Cosima to the courageous heroines, Bonnie and Sylvia as played by Annabel D and Bea L, at the heart of the story, every member of the cast delivered a standout performance. The energy in the room was palpable as the story unfolded, with each twist and turn keeping the audience on the edge of their seats.

As Mrs Friend shared, ‘The mix of strong characters and dynamic storytelling made this performance an absolute triumph. The production not only demonstrated the remarkable talent of the Year 9 girls but also highlighted the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in bringing the show to the stage. A special thank you was extended to the families and friends for their continued support, which was reflected in the warmth and enthusiasm of the audience.’

The performance of Wolves of Willoughby Chase was a resounding success, offering an evening filled with captivating drama and a deep sense of community spirit. The Four on Tour Company has certainly set a high bar for future productions, and the audience left eager to see what they will bring to the stage next.
