Huge congratulations to Claudia and Bea (both UIV) who were the St Mary's Calne finalists for the regional heat of the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare Recital Competition on Thursday 20 March.

This regional heat was held at John of Gaunt's School in Trowbridge, featuring nine other entries from local schools including Stonar School, South Wilts Grammar School and many others.

Our actors were both performing scenes from Romeo and Juliet with Claudia as Lord Capulet in Act 1 Scene 5, and Bea playing Mercutio in Act 3 Scene 1.

Competition was fierce, with impressive pieces from the other schools, including extracts from Henry V to A Midsummer's Nights Dream. However, our girls delivered beautifully nuanced performances which resulted in Claudia going forwards as part of the four candidates chosen to progress to the next round, held in the Summer Term.

Congratulations to all the girls who took part in the School Heat, to Bea for all her work to perform to such a high standard on the day, and to Claudia for getting through to Round Three. Bravo!
