It was a privilege to welcome renowned pianist and composer Pamela Chilvers to St Mary’s Calne for a special Piano Masterclass with some of our aspiring pianists. Hosted by our Head of Keyboard Studies, Mr Mark Sandon-Williams, the session offered pupils a unique opportunity to refine their technique, broaden their musical understanding, and perform in front of a renown and respected pianist.
Throughout the masterclass, Pamela shared invaluable insights into interpretation, phrasing, and performance practice. Her encouraging and thoughtful feedback helped each pupil reflect on their playing, who were both inspired and motivated by the session.
Reflecting on the day, Mr Sandon-Williams said, ‘I was incredibly proud of our pianists, not only for their performances, but for how willingly they took on board Pamela's advice and techniques. It was wonderful to see them apply these insights immediately, resulting in more polished and expressive playing. This kind of session is invaluable in helping them take their musicianship to the next level.’
We are grateful to Pamela Chilvers for her time, expertise, and warmth in working with our young musicians. It was a truly memorable and inspiring experience for all involved.
