Yesterday, eight members of the Calne Young Enterprise Company travelled to Poole to represent POW Self Defence in the South West Regional Final, following their success at the Wiltshire County Final.
After setting up our trade stand, we had the opportunity to market and sell our product to judges and students from other schools, before taking part in a private interview with the judges, who seemed genuinely impressed by our ethos and passion to make a difference. Our final presentation provided another valuable opportunity to develop our public speaking skills and raise awareness about the importance of our product.
We also really enjoyed meeting other student companies—ranging from self-defence trump cards and bamboo toothbrushes to sea glass necklaces. It was fascinating to see the variety of ideas and learn about the different journeys other teams had taken.
We were thrilled to be awarded the Marketing Award and even more excited to be named Runners-Up at the South West Final! Receiving feedback from such experienced judges - including investors and even the Co-founder of Lush - was incredibly valuable. It offered real insight into the business world and provided advice we’ll carry forward.
'POW Self Defence have been a talented and thoughtful Young Enterprise Company. The strong leadership team of Ada R, Amélie A and Martha C has ensured that the team has always aimed high. Their creativity, motivation, and teamwork have been exemplary. With strong branding, an innovative product and exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills, POW represented themselves with aplomb at the Young Enterprise South West Final and I’m delighted that their strengths were recognised with the ‘Marketing’ and ‘Runner-up’ awards. I couldn’t be prouder of their achievements – next year’s YE Company has a very tough act to follow!' Mr Poole, Head of Economics.
