On Tuesday 13th June, 30 members of St Cecilia’s House visited Marden Court care home as part of Volunteer Week. The girls spent much of the previous afternoon and morning baking and making gifts for the residents, including Myra’s amazing strawberry cheesecake and dozens of cupcakes, cookies and other delicious goodies. The St C’s kitchen had never seen such hard work!
On Monday 12th June, as the sun was shining, the MIV waved St Mary’s goodbye and set off for a week of sun-soaked fun and adventure on the Isle of Wight.
The LIV had a fabulous time in Bude! We arrived on Sunday to a warm welcome from our instructors at Adventure Bude and, after unpacking and settling into our new dorms, we enjoyed a choice of activities: some football, a film night or a disco!
A delightful gathering took place on Tuesday 20th June, as Rachel and Michael Benson opened their doors in Yorkshire to host a 150th Anniversary Regional Lunch Party. This small gathering brought together a diverse group of individuals, spanning generations and sharing cherished memories of Calne.
On Thursday 15th June, we hosted another very enjoyable 150th Anniversary Regional Drinks Party with Kate & Dom Fry at their beautiful home in Wiltshire. It had been a scorching hot day and guests were able to enjoy the shady terrace and cool drawing room as well as walking around the garden as the heat faded.
On Sunday 11th June, 29 UIV (Year 9) students, accompanied by Mrs Northcote-Green, Mr Griffin and Mme Rinjonneau, set off to spend five days in France and Belgium.
Congratulations to Pippa (LVI) on being named British National Junior Champion at the recent Belsay International Horse Trials riding the beautiful 17-year-old Barney.
On Monday morning, we set off to Lulworth Cove where we initially looked at the Coastal Morphology and how factors such as waves, tides and ocean currents influence this concordant coastline. We also looked at how this particular area had changed over the years by analysing pictures and maps.
Anticipation filled the air on a sunny Monday morning as nearly 100 local school children eagerly gathered for the Primary Schools' Lacrosse Festival.
On Tuesday 13th June, St Mary's hosted girls and boys from local primary schools for the first of three science workshops. Session One was a Biology Workshop which explored our microscopic world, particularly focusing on using microscopes to view cells.
On Friday 9th June, LIV enjoyed a sunny trip out to Bristol Aquarium as part of their 'Plastics in the Ocean' scheme of work in Science. After a guided tour of the aquarium, they learned about the importance of reducing plastic waste and how it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of the oceans.
Kimmerage Bay and Studland Bay became the perfect outdoor classrooms for LVI pupils as they embarked on their Biology field trip on the sunny morning of Monday 12th June. The students first navigated the rugged terrain of the rocky shore and started by exploring the zonation of seaweed.
